ClingSpace Privacy Policy

ClingSpace is designed to be local-first. Your project data stays on your computer, and ClingSpace does not upload or read the contents of the files and folders you add to a Space.

This Privacy Policy explains what ClingSpace and clingspace.com collect, what they do not collect, and how limited anonymous analytics are used.

Your files and project data

ClingSpace stores its application data locally on your Windows PC.

This can include:

  • Spaces you create
  • file and folder names and locations used by ClingSpace
  • Links you save
  • Snippets you create
  • Context you add to resources
  • application preferences
  • local backup information
  • license information required to activate the application

ClingSpace does not upload this project data to ClingSpace servers.

ClingSpace does not upload or remotely store the contents of your files.

ClingSpace does not move, copy, modify or delete your original files merely because you add or remove them from a Space.

Anonymous analytics

ClingSpace uses limited analytics to understand whether the website and application are working and being used.

The website may record anonymous events such as:

  • page views
  • Direct Download clicks
  • Microsoft Store clicks
  • Buy License clicks

The application may record anonymous events such as:

  • first successful application launch
  • application launches
  • successful license activation
  • failed license activation
  • license deactivation

Analytics events may include limited technical information such as:

  • application version
  • distribution channel
  • a randomly generated installation identifier used to avoid counting the same installation as a new installation repeatedly

ClingSpace analytics do not store:

  • file contents
  • file paths
  • file names
  • folder names
  • Space names
  • Links you save
  • Snippet contents
  • Context contents
  • Windows account names
  • email addresses
  • IP addresses
  • browser user-agent strings

The analytics system is intended to measure aggregate usage, not identify individual users.

Because this information is collected without an account or identifying profile, ClingSpace generally cannot associate an analytics record with a particular person.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

The ClingSpace website respects supported Do Not Track (DNT) and Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals.

When one of these signals is enabled, the website does not send its normal anonymous analytics events.

Licensing and purchases

ClingSpace licenses may be purchased through third-party commerce providers.

For purchases made directly through ClingSpace, Lemon Squeezy acts as the merchant of record and processes payment and transaction information. ClingSpace does not receive or store your full payment-card details.

Lemon Squeezy's own privacy policy and buyer terms apply to information processed through its checkout and licensing services.

If ClingSpace is acquired through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft may process information relating to the Store transaction, installation and account under Microsoft's own terms and privacy policies.

License activation

When activating a direct-purchase license, ClingSpace communicates with the licensing service to validate the license and register the activation.

ClingSpace stores protected license information locally on your PC so the application can continue working offline after successful activation.

A ClingSpace direct-purchase license may be activated on up to three PCs, subject to the license terms applicable at purchase.

Service providers

ClingSpace may rely on service providers for limited infrastructure functions, including:

  • Cloudflare for website hosting and analytics infrastructure
  • Lemon Squeezy for direct payments and license-key services
  • Microsoft for Microsoft Store distribution when applicable

Those providers may process technical information necessary to deliver their services according to their own privacy policies.

Data retention

Local ClingSpace project data remains on your computer until you remove it or uninstall/delete the applicable local data.

Anonymous analytics may be retained for product-performance, launch-measurement and aggregate usage analysis.

Because the analytics system does not maintain user accounts or collect identifying project information, it may not be possible to locate or delete a particular anonymous analytics event as belonging to a specific person.

Children

ClingSpace is a general-purpose productivity application and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

ClingSpace is designed to minimize the amount of information transmitted away from your computer.

Local license information is protected using Windows security mechanisms where applicable. No software or storage system can guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if ClingSpace's functionality, analytics or service providers change.

The current version will always be available at:

Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date on this page.
